Beatles Again

(January 15, 1991 - Present)

- Introduction

Before Arno Guzek took over the club, he was internationally recognized in Beatles circles. He has been named 'Beatle of the Year' in Denmark (a title that has only been used this one time), and he has participated in ‘Double Or Nothing’ on TV, with the Beatles as the main topic. During his student years, he had a part-time job at EMI on Høffdingsvej in Valby, and there he gained extensive knowledge of record production in Denmark. He has released detailed discographies and organized Beatles meetings, one in 1983 in Hvidovre, and another in 1985 in Birkerød.

In January 1991, 40-year-old Arno Guzek and 22-year-old Kenneth Bue Madsen formally took over the fan club 'The Beatles Society'. Their first activity was a meeting held on 26th of January 1991 in Kenneth's apartment in Østerbro, Copenhagen. The meeting had been called by Kenneth in the previous issue (issue 22) of ‘The Beatles Society’. At the meeting it was agreed to continue the club. Arno Guzek, who did not attend the meeting himself, became chairman, Pia Meisner became vice chairman, and Kenneth became an editorial staff member.

In April 1991, the first magazine was published under the name ‘Beatles ‘Again’. The magazine was published 6 times a year, and the price was 135,- Danish kroner annually. Members could place ads in the magazine for a price of 10 Danish kroner. Initially, the number of members was around 100.

The first joint event was a comment on and an invitation to the film 'Get Back', which was to be shown at the Imperial Cinema in Copenhagen. In addition, many Beatles-related events were mentioned in the magazine, even though ‘Beatles Again’ was not involved in them all.

The magazine was largely written by Arno Guzek himself, with regular contributions from photographer Lars Nielsen (Larry Nelson). In addition, a few competent contributions/articles from the members were published. From the start, the magazine was characterized by providing detailed facts about the Beatles members and their releases, as well as articles about their family. In addition, unofficial record releases have been thoroughly covered in the early issues.

In 1994, the price of membership increased to 150,- Danish kroner annually.

The club organized several bus trips. After member Claus Nielsen won the TV competition 'Stardust', where he performed as John Lennon, a trip to Amsterdam was arranged, where the grand finale was to be held. The club also organized trips to concerts with Ringo Starr (1998) and Paul McCartney (2004). Through the club it was possible to get free tickets to the screening of the newly restored version of Yellow Submarine, and also through the club, you could buy tickets for George Martin's 2000 lecture, 'Summer Of Love' in Amager Bio.

From issue no. 55 a 'Beatles Again webpage' was mentioned, and from issue no. 60 the magazine was published with colour photos.

In 2001 the first Beatles meeting was held in Hvidovre, with films, live music and buying/selling records and other items. Approximately 100 members participated. These meetings became a recurring event in the club. Lars Nielsen (Larry Nelson) prepared some very difficult and nerdy quizzes, where the members in attendance gathered in teams. Later on, meetings were held at the Hotel Cabinn in Copenhagen.

From issue 84 a series of detailed articles about Danish Beatles releases began. These articles later formed the basis for the development of www.fabfour.dk.

In 2008 the price of membership increased to 175,- Danish kroner annually.

In 2009, ‘Beatles Again’ got its own Facebook group, where news is posted and where members can exchange views. A sister group 'Beatles for sale' was created in 2014 to keep the Beatles Again group free from buying and selling ads. Both groups are alive and kicking in 2025.

On several occasions, member Michael Lund Sørensen has had Beatles Again T-shirts made, which many club members have worn at concerts. The first T-shirt was made for the Paul McCartney concert at Roskilde Festival in 2015.

In connection with the release of the remixed Beatles records, the group 'Beatles Again', in collaboration with Universal and Apple, arranged listening events that were held the evening before the official release date, where it was possible to buy all variations of the new releases. More than 200 members have participated in these events.
