Elsker The Beatles (Love The Beatles)

(2019 - Present)

The ‘Elsker The Beatles (Love The Beatles)’ podcast series was originally created by Niels Harild, who in the late 1980s was on the editorial board of The Beatles Society Fanclub.

There are many foreign podcasts about The Beatles, but this series is the first with a Danish host.

Since the start, these podcasts has released a new episode every 2 weeks, with a break in June/August. The launch in August 2019 was challenging, using borrowed recording equipment and without any experience in digital editing. However, the series gained a lot of attention with a huge response, and many people wanted to participate. 2020 brought Covid, which made it difficult to do new interviews, but on the other hand, it gave many new listeners.

New technique was quickly picked up, and microphones etc. were purchased. Season 2 also featured the podcast's own signature tune, composed by Claus Nielsen. Moreover, the podcast has developed some regular formats such as ‘What Goes On’ about new releases, ‘Toppermost’ where an album is reviewed in detail, ‘Apropos The Beatles’ about related music, and ‘It was 50 Years Ago Today’ with a historical look back at what happened around The Beatles 50 years ago.

These formats are recurring each season, often with a regular cast of guests. Almost all interviews take place at the guest's home. There is no money involved in the production, except for the cost of the royalties, which Niels covers himself.

Recording a Podcast (Niels Harild right)

Being the only one producing the podcasts is demanding, Niels often spends more than 20 hours on a single podcast, from planning to broadcasting. Niels says that he has plans for a few more seasons before he will consider a less time-consuming format. Throughout the more than 140 podcasts, there have also been a few foreign guests. Those interviews were recorded in English, otherwise it is a purely Danish podcast. Up to 2000 people listen in on each episode.
